First off, thoughts on your ideas Jared — I'm into the thread rules idea, and some kind of simple version just based on URLs seems fun, e.g. whitelisting a set of allowed domains, or even like only allowing personal site links (same domain as user profile).

I'd also thought maybe a thread description could be useful to make more explicit the kinds of links / replies that should be posted in a thread…then we were chatting a bit about a checkbox for replies, like "I verify this is an original hand-made web reply" haha and merging description + constraint with like a customizable checkbox rule seems like fun.

Annotation also interesting but ofc makes things more complex; I do like sticking with very simple constraints! Kind of into everything just via hyperlinks, but some flair like I think you mentioned pulling in favicons from each link could be nice.

a few further ideas—

thread directory - still think it's best to be private by default, but could explore like an opt-in way to publish to a directory…not sure if that'd be best while thread is active (for people to find and contribute) or maybe only available once completed (for more archive of examples / inspiration)

a way to copy or embed a thread - maybe useful to facilitate e.g. using as a blog post comments section via iframe? or like a way to just copy the static HTML or markdown…or some fun way to share just a fun plaintext formatted version for twitter etc. (thinking e.g. how wordle had the "share results as rows of emoji" meme)

time-related things…TBD! - hazy thoughts, but could play with things like an option to reset the seven-day timer (bumping the thread), reset the clock with each reply, or other customizability…also things like repeating threads, or scheduled threads…idk though mostly think it feels better to be intentional + manually created
